HomeKaren SCOTT
At 16 years Karen painted her first Mandala after being introduced to Carl Jung’s ideas on Mandalas as a symbolic representation of a journey or cycle. This had a profound effect on her life and she began producing a visual journal of Mandalas. Karen believes that through creative expression fragmented parts of the self can be brought together visually. This begins a process of developing inner unity – a feeling of oneness. Karen believes that Mandalas bring about an emergence of greater awareness in both the viewer and the artist. She says that they are much more than just a pretty picture.
Coming from an art background she developed her own painting style favouring acrylics and mixed mediums and specialising in Mandalas. She has travelled extensively (lived in Northern India with Tibetans for 4 years) experiencing Mandalas in many different cultures.
Karen has had commissions for Mandalas internationally including France, Holland, Italy and the U.S. Two of her works have been published in the mandala book, ‘Journey to the centre’, by Bailey Cunningham. Several private collectors have purchased four or more of her paintings. Three galleries have acquired her works as well as city councils, schools and Melbourne University.
She has had numerous exhibitions (over 40) and had work shown at Federation Square. Last year she was in the final selection for the McGivern Art Award.
For the past seven years she has successfully run Mandala workshops in a wide range of areas. She is impressed by the far-reaching results of this creative art expression.
